How to compare cabinet refacing quotes
By NW Cabinet & Refacing · Updated
Compare the written scope first. A useful refacing quote identifies the fronts and surfaces being changed, the materials and finish, the drawer and hardware work, installation, exclusions and payment terms. A low total is hard to interpret until you know what it includes.
Count the components and describe the materials.
Door and drawer-front counts are a useful starting point. Measurements, tall panels, exposed ends, trim and unusual shapes explain work that a simple count can miss.
Ask for the door construction, profile, wood or panel material and finish. “Wood cabinets” alone does not tell you which parts are solid wood, plywood, veneered panels or another material.
- New doors and drawer fronts, with the agreed profile and material
- Exposed face frames or frameless edges
- Finished end panels, appliance panels and visible backs
- Crown, light rail, fillers, toe kicks and other trim in the scope
Ask what happens behind the fronts.
A new drawer front is different from a new drawer box. Slides, hinges, pulls and storage accessories are separate components with their own fit and installation requirements.
A hardware brand does not describe every part of the package. Ask which product is proposed, whether existing drawers are retained, and what the written price includes. The quote for your kitchen is the reference.
- Drawer boxes: retained, modified or replaced
- Drawer slides and hinges, including the proposed model where relevant
- Decorative pulls and knobs, including supply and installation
- Pull-outs, waste storage and other accessories
Make the installation boundaries clear.
Ask where the finish is applied and what work takes place in the house. NW Cabinet orders prefinished components and fits them during installation. There is still preparation, cutting, fitting, noise and dust.
Countertops, plumbing, electrical work, appliance work and ventilation can involve separate people and schedules. Confirm who arranges each item rather than assuming it is included in the cabinet total.
- Removal and disposal responsibilities
- Installation, alignment, trim and touch-ups
- Countertop removal, templating and installation if included
- Disconnections and reconnections that must be arranged separately
Get the remaining questions into the document.
Check taxes, payment milestones, selection deadlines, change-order handling and the warranty and care terms for the proposed work. Ask which dates are estimates and when installation timing can be confirmed.
An online market average or a count-based planning range is not a quote for your measured kitchen. If two prices are far apart, walk through the missing lines together. That conversation is more useful than assuming both companies priced the same job.
