What to expect at home during cabinet refacing
By NW Cabinet & Refacing · Updated
Refacing installation usually takes several days, with the exact schedule depending on your kitchen and scope. Expect limited kitchen use, noise and dust. New countertops add their own templating, installation and plumbing sequence. We discuss preparation and access before the work starts.
Ordering time and installation time are different.
The first visit helps us assess the cabinets, discuss samples and prepare a written quote. After a deposit, we take the detailed measurements and settle selections before ordering.
Supplier lead times vary. Once we have the supplier’s timing, we contact you to choose an installation week. A few days of work in the house does not mean the whole project can be completed a few days after the first conversation.
Clear the work areas before we arrive.
We discuss access and a suitable place to set up tools. Give us room to move components through the house and reach the cabinets included in the work.
Clear the countertops and empty the drawers. Clear items around hinges and empty cabinets receiving pull-outs. Remove other cabinet contents if you want to keep dust off them. We will discuss any additional preparation for your scope.
- Clear counters and drawer contents
- Make room around the affected cabinets
- Discuss the tool setup area and access route
- Arrange necessary disconnections before the affected work begins
Plan around an active work area.
We prepare the existing cabinetry, fit the finished surfaces and trim, install the new fronts and agreed drawer components, then align and adjust the work. Prefinished components reduce finishing work in the house, but the installation still creates noise and dust.
Plan simple meals and expect limited use of the kitchen. Ask about access for the particular days you need to plan around. The sequence depends on which cabinets, appliances and surfaces are being worked on.
Countertops add another sequence.
If you are keeping the existing countertops, the plan differs from a project with new ones. New countertops can require separate removal, templating and installation appointments.
The sink and dishwasher may be unavailable until the countertop installation and separate plumbing reconnection are complete. Plumbing, electrical work and ventilation are arranged separately from our cabinet scope. Confirm responsibilities and appointments early.
Leave time for the final details.
The fit of the doors, drawer movement, hardware placement and trim all deserve a final look. Bring questions to the owner-operator so we can discuss the agreed work and any remaining adjustments.
Keep the written scope, final selections and care information together. Ask for the warranty terms that apply to the materials and installation in your project. For follow-up questions, contact NW Cabinet at (206) 600-1198 or info@nwcabinet.com.
